History

In the year 2000, Paul Graham cast a vision for a new Disciples of Christ congregation in the Wylie community of Abilene, Texas. A committee was formed from members of First Christian Church and Brookhollow Christian Church, Abilene, Home Bible study groups began, and in December, 2001, with a core group of leaders, the new congregation began Sunday morning worship in rented space at 6250 Buffalo Gap Road. Only a few years later, the congregation was afforded the opportunity to purchase the same property and establish a permanent home for the ministries of Wylie Christian Church (WCC).

During the summer of 2007, the group called Vision Builders, through the office of Church Extension with the Disciples of Christ in Indianapolis, came to Abilene with the help of individuals from WCC and other congregations from around the country, was able to complete a renovation of the facility.

In 2011, we celebrated ten years of ministry together. We are thankful for the lives of individuals that have impacted WCC and for the many friends and relationships we have built, including housing the Wylie campus of the Abilene Boys and Girls Club, numerous civic groups and organizations that meet in our facility, and the connections that have been made in the surrounding community. Wylie Christian Church remains a safe place for people to ask the difficult questions and to explore new ideas and grow together in faith.
