WHY DO WE LIGHT CANDLES?
The candles on the table are lit at the beginning of the service to remind us of the presence of Christ in the worship.
WHY DO WE PRAY THE LORD’S PRAYER USING “DEBTS” AND “DEBTORS”?
The closest English translations from the original Greek text (Matthew 6) use the words “debts” and “debtors.”
WHY DO WE OFFER AN INVITATION?
Our time of invitation is a call to discipleship, and an opportunity to respond to God in the worship setting. During this call you may:
- make a first-time public confession of your decision to follow Christ in servanthood; this confession is usually followed by baptism.
- decide to declare before this congregation your intention to become an active part of this fellowship.
- feel led to re-dedicate yourself in deeper relationship with Christ.
- come forward during our time of invitation to pray for personal situations either silently or by receiving “encouragement, healing or anointing” through shared prayer.
WHY DO WE CELEBRATE COMMUNION EACH WEEK?
As Disciples we come to the communion service each week to be reminded of Christ’s sacrifice for the world, and to be joined together with all other believers through this act of worship. Communion in Disciples’ worship is open to all; please be encouraged to participate.
